Company history

‘L&S Morris’ was founded in Yorkshire in 1946 by father and son, Louis and Sidney Morris, selling household goods on market stalls around Yorkshire. Sidney Morris soon settled the business into a permanent stall at Harrogate’s indoor market and moved towards specialising in curtains.

The market-based business passed down the generations to Sidney’s daughter, Linda Sandler and eventually to her son Rob Sandler in 1996.

In 1999 the market closed and the business moved to a two-floor showroom in Harrogate’s town centre. This move helped develop the company into one of Harrogate’s premium suppliers of soft furnishings to the local area, supplying anything from a single blind to a stately home full of furnishings.

In 2011 the business relocated to an office and commercial showroom in Leeds to focus fully on contract clients.

Our activity is concentrated on the design, supply and installation of curtains & blinds to residential developments, refurbishments and housing projects across the UK.

The key members of the Mint team are:

Rob Sandler - Managing Director

Robert Sandler
Rob took over the family’s Harrogate market stall in 1996, becoming the fourth generation to run the business. The stall was very much curtain-focussed, but he was also seen selling the odd peg-bag or even a lacy doyly. He has asked for this not to be made public!

In 1999 the stall became a two-floor high street showroom in Harrogate, steadily moving up-market over the years, eventually employing a ten-strong team of designers and furnishing some of North Yorkshire’s finest properties.

Rob anticipated changing times for high street retailers, and in 2006 launched the Mint Commercial Interiors brand to develop the supply to the contract market. This ran alongside the shop until the leap was made in 2009 focus fully on the commercial market and the business moved to office premises in Leeds.

Rob has as BSc (Hons) in Management and Marketing of Textiles and sits on the management board of his local housing association.

Christine Sykes - Operations Manager
